Upcoming Event: Comprehensive Coastal Communities 3C competition launch

The student group ORLI Operation Resilient Long Island will host the event Raise or Stay: The Road forward Post Sandy on April 25 2013, at 6:30pm at Steelcase NY, 4 Columbus Circle. The event will showcase student led post sandy initiatives from Pratt, New Jersey Institute of Technology and New York Institute of Technology. Speakers from NYC, New Jersey, and The American Institute of Architects New York will speak on how their local communities and organizations are dealing with Sandy. The event intends to bring together groups in the spirit of regional collaboration. A food and wine reception will follow the event and AIA CES credit will be provided.

The 3C competition calls for ideas for local communities dealing with raising buildings and their impact on the character of the community. Submissions must define the character of their selected neighborhood, design a housing typology, and develop a vision plan for the neighborhood. Proposals should strongly consider context and how their proposals will preserve and enhance the character of the local neighborhood.  Ideas from the competition will be translated into zoning proposals for specific municipalities after the competition.

The competition brief is available online and registration is open until June 30. There is no entry fee and registrants will receive a $20 gift card. Selected submissions will be featured in a publication and traveling exhibition. A jury will select award winners, which will be announced at the 3C Symposium October 10 in New York City.
